ICOPS Overview
IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science (ICOPS) is sponsored by the Plasma Science and Applications Committee (PSAC) of the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Science Society (NPSS) and is the flagship conference for PSAC.
Originating in 1973, ICOPS, usually held in the USA, has also been held several times in Canada and outside North America. ICOPS covers all aspects of plasma science, from thermonuclear fusion to plasma processing of computer chips and plasma light sources. Normally, minicourses are a part of the program. Presenters may submit papers on work presented at the conference to the IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science, and several special topical issues have appeared as a result of work presented at ICOPS. The Plasma Science and Applications Committee of the NPSS is responsible for organizing this conference as well as mini-courses on plasma science topics of current interest. The committee sponsors or cosponsors other topical conferences in its field of interest and assists in the publication of the IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science.
ICOPS conference registrants range from 500-650. The technical program covers a diverse range of plasma science topics and consists of plenary talks, parallel oral technical sessions, poster sessions and mini-courses. The program is designed to offer an outstanding forum to learn some of the leading advances in plasma science and technology in recent years and to exchange views on advanced techniques and future directions for many key plasma applications.
